Type of Diabetes

According to modern classification there are two type of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is caused due to reduced insulin production(beta cell destruction ). Type 2, the more common type of diabetes is caused due to non-utilization of produced insulin. Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and non – insulin dependent diabetes are the synonyms used for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus respectively . The most commonly seen diabetes is Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Fasting blood glucose is done at laboratory as an initial diagnostic tool. HbA1C or glycated Haemoglobin is the laboratory test used for confirming Diabetes.

According to Ayurveda there are twenty type of Diabetes. In Ayurveda “Prameha“ is the term used for Diabetes. 10 types are caused by kapha, 6 by Pitta and 4 types are caused by Vata. The final type in Ayurvedab classification is called as Madhumeha. Madhumeha symptoms explained in the Ayurveda classics matches completely with Diabetes mellitus.

Symptoms, Causes and Complications of Diabetes mellitus

According to the modern medical science various theories are put forwarded as the cause of diabetes mellitus.
